Welcome to the Rhode Island Women's Lacrosse Umpires Association website. RIWLUA is the local organization responsible for training, developing and assigning umpires to officiate all public and private high school, middle school and youth girl's lacrosse game in Rhode Island.
One of this board’s continuing challenges is recruiting and retaining new umpires to match the explosive growth of girl’s lacrosse. We encourage everyone to set a goal to promote girl’s lacrosse umpiring, to recruit new people, and to mentor them along the process. It is not necessary to have played women’s lacrosse to become an umpire of this game, we are however looking for individuals who are motivated and willing to run and who show the desire to put in the time and work necessary to keep advancing and developing their umpiring skills and knowledge. All umpires are mandated by US Lacrosse to be evaluated through written testing and on-field assessment: therefore, as part of the women’s lacrosse umpiring certification there is an expectation that all of our members will continue to grow and advance their umpiring skills each and every season.
